Employee sustains laceration from table saw

On November 8, 2002, Employee #1, an inmate at the State of California, Department of Corrections (DOC), was working for the State of California, Department of Fire and Forestry (CDF) as part of a CDF work camp. Employee #1 was working in the carpentry shop helping make gifts for needy children, and without permission was cutting a piece of wood on a table saw. He took the guard off the saw prior to cutting the piece of wood. Employee #1 was working on a personal project not related to the gifts for the children. This Delta Table saw had a guard that met the requirements of the Safety orders. Employee #1 received a deep cut to his right hand that required hospitalization. He was working on equipment that he was not authorized to use, and was working without the knowledge of the supervising officer.
