Employee injured when finger amputated by belt and pulley

At 2:15 p.m. on April 26, 2003, a serious accident occurred to Employee #1, a Lingl unloading operator at manufacturing Line Number 4 in the Firing Department of the facility, located in Corona, California. The employer is engaged in the manufacturing of roof tiles. Employee #1 was attempting to remove an S-type roof tile that got stuck between two vertical moving belts of a tile and metal tube separator with his right gloved hand. As he picked up the stuck tile, his right ring finger got caught and pulled between the moving belt and pulley, causing partial amputation of his ring finger. Initially Employee #1 was taken to a medical clinic and then to the Riverside Community Center in Colton, California, for treatment. After surgery, Employee #1 was discharged the same day.
