Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170628903
Event: 10/01/1994
Employee burned by splashed sulfuric acid

Employee #1 and a coworker, of J.G. Boswell Co., Inc., were moving a 55 gallon plastic drum of sulfuric acid from a wooden delivery pallet to a cement floor. The drum slipped from their hands. The drum struck the floor, the bung cap came off, and the acid was splashed onto Employee #1. The coworker immediately washed down Employee #1 with a water hose and then took him to an emergency shower. Because the drums were not to be opened by the employees, safety glasses with side shields, neoprene-rubber gloves, and cotton work clothing were the only equipment worn.
