Employee suffers multiple injuries in fall from dumpster

At approximately 3:00 p.m. on June 1, 1994, Employee #1 was assisting a forklift operator in loading boxes into a 40 cubic yard capacity steel dumpster measuring 20 ft long by 7 ft high. Employee #1 was standing on top of the container's edge, which measured 9 1/2 in. wide. He was assisting the forklift operator by watching and giving hand signals to guide the boxes that were being lowered into place and also by removing the straps. While standing on the ledge and removing a strap, he lost his balance and fell to the ground. The employee injured his knees, hands, neck, and back, and suffered a broken tooth. He was hospitalized for 5 days at Granada Hills Community Hospital.
