Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170151286
Event: 05/23/1995
Employee's finger amputated by saw blade

Employee #1 was making cabinets and needed to cut a piece of wood down to 4 to 5 inches wide. When he went to use a Delta saw he noticed that the guard had been removed. Instead of reinstalling the guard, Employee #1 decided to make the cut without it since he only had one piece of wood to cut. While pushing the wood through with his right hand, he reached over the blade with his left hand to guide the end that had already been cut. The saw kicked the wood sideways and the wood kicked back, dragging his left little finger into the saw blade and amputating it.
