Employee breaks ribs in fall from scaffold

Employee #1 was on a scaffold, constructing bracing for a concrete form at the Adams Canyon Barraco Debris Basin in Santa Paula, CA. He was standing on the horizontal bracings (gang bracings) of the form when he unlatched his safety belt to move around a buttress to continue tightening taper ties. Employee #1 lost his footing and grabbed onto a 4 by 6 that was not secured, lost his balance, and fell 18 ft to the ground, breaking his ribs and bruising his back. The victim was transported to Santa Paula Hospital, Santa Paula, CA, by Ventura police and fire department personnel who were on the scene. A citation for a violation of T8CCR 1670(e) will be issued.
