Investigation Nr: 170864516
Event: 12/29/1995
Employee's fingers severed in lemon packing machine

At approximately 6:50 p.m. on December 29, 1995, Employee #1, of the Saticoy Lemon Assoc. Inc., was removing lemons from in and around several lemon packing machines. Rather than use the lemon retrieval pole or wait until the machines were shut down, Employee #1 went into the machine's cavity to pull out lemons. He slipped and put his hand on the chain drive, which was located under the machine. Employee #1's left fingers were severed. He was taken to the emergency room, then released. Employee #1 misjudged a hazardous situation.
