Employee finger amputated by metal drum

On August 3, 2001, Employee #1, a machine operator for Mission Foods, was observing tortilla product being processed by a K.B. Baking Machine. This machine rolls the dough through sets of drums and drops small dollops of the tortilla dough onto a conveyor to be further processed. Employee #1 noticed a build up of excess product on the side of the outer drum and used his hand to scrape away the dough. Employee #1, despite having an extension tool for removing the excess, used his hand to scrape away the dough. The outer drum happened to have a small piece broken out of it and Employee #1's finger went into that hole, the employee's finger tip was severed by the metal inner drum as it rotated. Employee #1 was transported to Concentron Clinic, where he was treated for his injuries, but was not hospitalized.
