EMPLOYEE INJURES BACK IN FALL FROM SECOND STORY

EMPLOYEE #1, A LABORER ON A RESIDENTIAL HOUSING TRACT, WAS WORKING ON THE SECOND STORY OF A RESIDENCE UNDER CONSTRUCTION. THE FRAMING LUMBER FOR THE SECOND STORY WAS STACKED NEXT TO THE SOUTH EDGE OF THE HOUSE. EMPLOYEE #1 WAS REQUIRED TO REACH OVER THE EDGE OF THE SECOND STORY FLOOR TO OBTAIN THE STUDS FOR FRAMING. EMPLOYEE #1 WAS REACHING FOR ADDITIONAL LUMBER, SLIPPED, AND FELL 9 FEET TO THE GROUND. HE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH LOWER BACK INJURIES. THE EMPLOYER HAD PROVIDED NO FALL PROTECTION. EMPLOYEE #1 SIMPLY LOST HIS BALANCE AND HAD NO PROTECTIVE GEAR TO STOP HIS FALL.
