Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170605885
Event: 08/16/1993
Employee's fingertip is amputated when hit by display stand

At approximately 10:40 a.m. on August 16, 1993, Employee #1 was assigned to deliver display stands to a Marshall's store located in Riverside, California. Employee #1 was being assisted by another employee. The two were lifting the display stands from the back of a small delivery truck and carrying them through the loading dock door so that the stands could be taken from the receiving area to the display area. The assisting employee did not have a good grip on the stand being handled. As they were lifting a stand through the doorway, the assisting employee dropped the stand. Employee #1 was in the back of the truck holding on to the top of the stand. When the stand fell, it caught Employee #1's hand and fingers between the edge of the loading dock and the stand, amputating the tip of his second finger on his right hand.
