Employee Loses Finger While Removing Carton From Box Drop

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on July 17, 2001, Employee #1, a carton handler, amputated his left index finger at the second joint as he removed half of an old cardboard carton from the left side of box drop (elevator Number E14) located on the mezzanine level of the plant. When Employee #1 removed the carton, the box drop moved to its top most position, amputating his finger between the leading edge of the box drop and a metal support bar. Employee #1 was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
