Employee's finger amputated in chop saw

At approximately 12:30 p.m. on April 18, 1997, Employee #1 was working in the fan coil department. He was wearing cotton gloves as he used a Kalamazoo 10 in. chop saw, AMV DMO5-L.H, to cut a 4 to 5 in. long, 3/4 in. diameter copper pipe into a 3 in. long piece. Employee #1 was holding the pipe in his left hand and lowering the blade with his right hand when his left glove became entangled with the running blade. His left index finger suffered a diagonal cut and was amputated. The employer was cited for a serious violation of T8CCR 3384(b).
