Employee injured in fall after stepping on defective board

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on October 5, 1994, Employee #1, of Surco Development, Inc., was framing single family dwellings at a construction site in Temecula, CA. Employee #1 was spreading 2 in. by 10 in. boards used for floor joists for a second story floor above the garage. He apparently stepped on one of the boards that was lying on its side; the board was defective and broke, causing him to fall approximately 9 ft to the garage floor. Employee #1 received injuries to his back and was hospitalized.
