Employee hospitalized when fingers caught in roller

At approximately 5:40 a.m. on May 28, 1994, Employee #1 was removing paint and coating products from the bottom side of a paint roller on a roll coating machine. The roll coater is used to paint/coat thin steel. Employee #1 was using a rag and as he applied it to the reverse rolls, the rag and his fingers were drawn into the unguarded nip point between the two large rollers. The nip point between the rollers is guarded only when the machine is in production mode. Employee #1 was hospitalized for two days for his injuries. The employer was cited for a serious violation of T8CCR 4187(a).
