Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170630073
Event: 10/20/1994
Employee's hand injured when caught in case packer

Employee #1, of Van Den Bergh Food Co., a maintenance mechanic working on the night shift, was adjusting the shoe elevation on a case selector on line 4B, a case packaging line, marked Morpac Machine. He did not stop or de-energize the line to adjust the machine. He had both hands on the top carton in a magazine of cardboard cartons, pushing down both corners of the carton while the gripper or selector came forward and grabbed the carton. The gripper dragged one of his hands between the selector and the shoe guide. His right hand was lacerated and two fingers fractured, with no amputation.
