Employee's finger amputated by unguarded saw

Employee #1 was attempting to rip a piece of cardboard 5/8 in. thick, 14 to 15 in. wide, and approximately 25 in. long. As the blade of the radial arm saw passed through the cardboard, Employee #1 attempted to pull it from the opposite side. The blade caught the cardboard and pulled it back into the cutting area, along with Employee #1's left hand, which was holding cardboard. Employee #1 sustained an amputation of the distal end of his left little finger. He was given first aid and transported for medical attention. Employee #1 had removed the anti-kickback device before using the saw.
