Employee's fingers amputated on table saw

At the time of the accident, Employee #1 was trying to sharpen a knife used on a printing press operation. There was a table saw nearby used for cutting lead type. The saw was a Hammond Glider Trimosaw, Model #3-100, which had a grinder attachment on the same shaft as the saw blade. This grinder wheel could be accessed by pulling up part of the saw table, but would put the user's hands within a few inches of the saw blade. Employee #1 attempted to use the grinder, but when the knife hung up on the grinder wheel, his left hand was pulled into the saw blade, amputating all fingers on his left hand.
