Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170729685
Event: 05/31/1993
Employee dislocates shoulder while descending railing

At about 10:15 a.m. on May 31, 1993, Employee #1, of Ball Incon Glass Packaging Corporation, was in the furnace area, standing on steel railings, adjusting a control valve on the furnace gas flowpipe. The overhead pipe was about 7 feet from the floor level and the guardrails, on which he partially stood while adjusting the valve, were about 3 1/2 feet from the floor. He did not use a ladder for access nor was there any kind of platform or runway for access to the overhead pipe. As he stepped down from the railing, using his right arm to climb down, Employee #1 felt a pop in his right shoulder. He was taken to Greater El Monte Hospital for observation of his dislocated right shoulder and was released.
