Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170178883
Event: 01/20/1993
Employee's fingers amputated by rollers

Employee #1, of National Labor Services, Inc., was operating a "padder-roller" machine, which is used to squeeze resin into cloth material. In-running material goes through 103 in. wide and 11 in. diameter rollers. When a new roll of material starts or continues running, the operator uses a guiding tool from behind a fixed barrier guard to guide material into the rollers. The employee could not find the tool, so he used his right hand. In doing so, the rollers degloved and amputated four of his fingers.
