Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170613004
Event: 08/05/1993
Employee injured when struck by falling tree

Employee #1 is a tree feller for a logging company. He cut a tree that was approximately 16 inches round and approximately 30 feet tall, which lodged in another tree. Employee #1 went to a tree that was in line with the cut tree, and was going to cut it down and bring it down with the lodged tree. Either Employee #1 misjudged the distance or the lodged tree simply slid forward while he was bent over sawing the other tree. It fell and hit Employee #1 on the head, neck, and shoulder. When another feller, who was working near Employee #1, didn't hear his saw running, he went up and found Employee #1 down in a gully. He was airlifted to UCD Medical Center in Sacramento.
