Employee caught in machine undergoes splenectomy

Employee #1 is a cleanup man in a lumber mill. The operator of the lumber piling machine, which stacks lumber in a pile to be banded and removed, had shut the machine off for approximately 30 seconds to put three stickers in the lumber stack. When he turned the machine back on, he heard someone screaming. He shut off the machine and went down the stairs to the back of the machine, where he saw Employee #1, whose back and ribs were caught in the approximately 20 inches between the machine arm and the motor. Employee #1 was freed and 911 was called. He was taken to Folsom Hospital, where his spleen was removed.
