Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 875252
Event: 06/10/1993
Employee injured when struck in face by falling clamp

Employee #1 was preparing to inspect an old liquid engine impellor before re-working it. Aluminum shims had been placed between the C-clamp pads and the impellor. While the 1,200 lb impellor was being hoisted, the soft metal shims and the curvature of the impellor's surface caused one clamp to slip off, striking Employee #1 in the middle of his forehead and on the right side of his nose and lacerating his face. Employee #1 was given first aid by a fellow employee and transferred to Folsom Mercy Hospital for emergency care. He was discharged later. This was not a reportable or lost time injury.
