Employee's arm lacerated in poultry machine

On September 22, 1992, Employee #1, of Foster Poultry Farms, was performing sanitation during the morning break when he saw a piece of fat in the carousel of the neck popping machine. He had a high pressure hose, but elected to reach into the machine to remove the piece of fat. He suffered a severe laceration and fracture to his left upper arm. Employee #1 had attended the employer's job safety training for sanitation, and the written procedure states, "Never stick your hands in the moving parts. Stop the machine before putting your hand in." Employee #1 will be subject to disciplinary action when he returns to work.
