Employee injured when run over by backing grader

On 11:15 a.m. on October 20, 1998, Employee #1, a laborer, was working for a contractor engaged in levee repair work on the San Joaquin River. He was directing trucks that were dumping clay in a small, 3,000 ft long by 200 ft wide bowl area for spreading and compaction when he was run over by a backing Cat 140G motor grader. Employee #1 suffered multiple fractures and was admitted to Memorial Hospital in Modesto, CA.
