Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 958116
Event: 07/30/1994
Employee's finger amputated by can positioner

On August 5, 1994, Employee #1, an experienced cleanup person, was cleaning a syrup filler/seamer on a peach canning line. His fingers were pulled into a rolling worm can positioner that he had touched to determine the amount of mold growth. His right little finger was amputated and his right ring finger severely lacerated. He was hospitalized at RK Davies Medical Center on two occasions; a transplant of the little finger failed. He had been trained and knew where the power disconnect was located. The employer was cited for a general violation of T8CCR 3314(a).
