Employee's finger amputated in meat blending machine

At approximately 8:15 a.m. on April 19, 1996, Employee #1, a production helper, was operating a Mepaco horizontal blender when he noticed meat piling up at the blender's rear dump door. He was reaching under the guard with his gloved left hand when his index finger became caught between the mixer auger blade and the mixer's inside wall. He suffered a traumatic avulsion/amputation of the entire finger, which was later surgically repaired to the distal joint. The employer was cited for a serious accident-related violation T8CCR 4184(a).
