Employee's fingers injured in gears of spindle bar machine

Employee #1, of McCann Engineering Company, Los Angeles, CA, was completing the setup of an Acme Gridley multiple spindle bar machine. He placed his right hand on the spindle speed and feed gear at the same time that he pressed the START button, which was set for 'jog.' His second and third fingers became caught in the gear; his second finger was crushed and his third finger was amputated at the distal end.
