Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170723779
Event: 11/24/1993
Employee's hand injured when caught by board on conveyor

Employee #1 was working as a lumber grader in a sawmill. His left hand and arm were fractured when he reached out to straighten a board and it pushed his hand into a metal beam. The board, moving on a temporary conveyor (set in place to resort units of lumber), turned crossways. The conveyor was perpendicular to the green chain. When Employee #1 grabbed the end of the board to straighten it, the momentum of the board moved his hand toward the beam. Employee #1's glove caught on the board and he could not pull his hand loose. His hand was pinched between the board end and the beam.
