Employee's thumb amputated by Skil saw

Employee #1, a carpenter, was preparing to build a concrete form for a poured footing. He held up an unsupported 2 by 4 in his free hand and began to cut it with a Skil saw. The saw kicked back and his left thumb was amputated by the newly installed saw blade. Employee #1 said that he should have supported the 2 by 4 on a saw horse.
