Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 956532
Event: 09/02/1992
Carpenter's finger cut off by saw

Employee #1, a journeyman carpenter, was working for a small construction company hired to add a room onto a single-story home. Employee #1 was notching the outriggers (rafters) that were to be exposed into the added room. Because he was holding up the saw guard by its lug with his left hand, he had to hold the saw in an awkward position. The saw jammed and jumped back on him, cutting off his left ring finger at the first joint. The saw was in perfect condition. The employer has a good safety program. No safety violations were cited.
