EMPLOYEE INJURED WHEN STABBED

Employee #1, a "Technical Partner" or nurse assistant in the surgical ward of the hospital, was in a patient's room helping the patient to the bathroom. No other health care workers were present in the room at that time. The patient stopped at the door of the bathroom. Employee #1 asked him what was the problem. She then saw he had a "Swiss Army" pocketknife in his hand. She asked him what he intended to do with it, fearing that he was going to hurt himself. He opened the knife and then stabbed her. Employee #1 suffered a deep stab wound with a 1.5 cm opening over the 11th lateral intercostal space.
