Employee amputates finger on table saw blade

On March 8, 1993, Employee #1 amputated his left middle finger when it contacted the blade of a table saw. According to Employee #1, he was cutting small blocks of wood for rubber stamps when one became wedged at the rear of the table. He attempted to push the block over the edge into a collection box at the rear of the saw. The block caught on a tooth of the moving blade and somehow pulled his finger into the blades or startled him to the extent that a reflex action caused his finger to contact the blade. The blade amputated one finger and caused nerve damage to another.
