Employee amputates fingertip while replacing hoist arm

Employee #1, a millwright, was working with a crew that was replacing a hoist arm on a sawmill breakdown hoist. The hoist arm was being held by a long mast attached to a forklift. Employee #1 was holding the hoist arm when it unexpectedly moved and pinched off the end of his finger. This is an infrequent operation (performed twice in five years), but the employer is now going to install an overhead rail so that a chain fall may be used for the job.
