Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202311585
Event: 12/07/1998
Employee Injured When Working With Chop Saw

At approximately 8:15 a.m. Employee #1 had been assigned to cut up various pieces of old wooden pallets that were being recycled. Employee #1 knew the boards had many nails in them and that he needed to be careful cutting around them. Employee #1 had a great deal of work ahead of him, and began working as swiftly as he could. Employee #1 was transferring some of the cut-up materials to one of the "out" boxes and left the machine (chop-saw) running. Employee #1 swung around and inadvertently touched the rotating blade with his left hand. Employee #1 sustained a severe laceration to the base of his left thumb. Employee #1 was treated and released from the hospital.
