Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170696389
Event: 06/21/1993
Employee's fingers partially amputated in snow blower chute

Employee #1 was using a Rolba snow blower, model #SS-16, to remove snow from the Beach Cruiser Bike Trail on Chair 12. The discharge chute was clogged with snow. He stated that he disengaged the auger/impeller, removed the chute guard, and commenced removing the snow from the chute with his right hand. He apparently stuck his hand too far into the chute. As a result, three fingers on his right hand were partially amputated. Cause of the accident: the equipment was not properly stopped and disengaged prior to the snow being cleaned from the discharge chute.
