Employee Sustains Herniated Disc While Moving Equipment

On April 18, 2005, Employee #1 was working in Customer Service for her employer, LifeScan, in Cube D8 on the main floor of Building 3. She reported to her supervisor that she was experiencing back pain from maneuvering a personal pedestal on wheels. The pedestal was 15 in. wide by 24 in. tall. The supervisor referred her to LifeScan's Health Services Department. Employee #1 had sustained a herniated disc. She was hospitalized. The occupational health nurse classified the injury as OSHA-recordable but notes the case is a work-related aggravation of a preexisting condition.
