Investigation Summary
Employee #1 was training a new coworker on the shock test machine, where the product is attached to a plate, the plate is bolted onto the mass and the mass is dropped. The coworker had the controls and was running the test. Employee #1 told the coworker to stop for a moment in order to adjust the felt pads. The coworker failed to stop the upward motion of the mass before it struck the trip allowing the mass to fall on Employee #1's thumb, smashing the bone. He sustained partial amputation of his right thumb, but was not hospitalized.
