Investigation Summary
At approximately 2:30 p.m. on February 5, 2004, Employee #1, a saw operator, was working at a resaw mill and wholesale lumber distributor. He was moving down the rollcase when he heard the sound of material caught in the chain drive. He reached under the guard of the infeed rollcase chain and sprocket drives on the self-centering resaw to remove a piece of wood that was tangled in the moving chains. The employee's gloved right hand was pulled into the pinch point between the chain and a sprocket, stalling the drive. Four of Employee #1's fingers were fractured and required corrective surgery. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
