Investigation Summary
At approximately 11:45 a.m. on July 29, 2004, two vineyard employees engaged in operating irrigation systems, proceeded south on ATVs between vineyards on the shoulder of a county road. One employee attempted to make a U-turn to retrieve his hat that blew away. He rolled- over his ATV (Kawasaki Prairie 300, 4x4 ATV) into the brush alongside the road. The employee sustained a severe head injury as a result of the accident, and as of August 10, 2004, remained in a rehabilitation hospital. The employee was a full-time, seasonal employee of the vineyard. The speed of the ATV's that rolled-over was estimated to be between 25 to 30 miles per hour by the driver of the other ATV.
