Employee's Finger Amputated in Log Splitter

At approximately 8:15 a.m. on August 22, 2002, Employee #1 was working on the feeding end of a Big Foot Industries log splitter, Serial Number K2513E325, which was powered by a 389 cc Honda gas engine. A coworker was operating the controls. Employee #1 was holding a log that was going into the splitter when the log fell. Employee #1 was trying to catch it when his right index finger became caught in the splitter's pinch point, amputating the last digit. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
