Event: 12/05/1998
Employee's hand lacerated when grinder kicks back

Employee #1 was in an anvil enclosure, using a portable right angle grinder to remove a metal burr from a weld so that a vertical anvil could be installed. The grinder kicked back, contacting the back of his right hand and the inside of his right arm. He was not wearing any gloves, and the 7 in. diameter abrasive disc lacerated his hand severely enough to require stitches. He also sustained superficial wounds to his arm.
