Worker Is Electrocuted Repairing Dust Collector

At approximately 11:00 a.m. on January 6, 2004, Employee #1, a 59-year-old male with Asarco Hayden Smelter was repairing the link uplift on a unit cell dust collector in the vent gas cottrells at a copper smelter. The equipment contained about 2,800 volts, direct current and had the potential to contain up to 60,000 volts, direct current. Employee #1 was electrocuted while working on this equipment, it was reported that he suffered electrical burns on his left shoulder, hip and thigh.
