Employee injured when gas cabinet explodes

Employee #1 was purging an APCI Gas Guard 100 manual gas panel to remove a blockage in a regulator. The panel contained 700 psi of 10 percent Diborane/Bal silane. While the employee purged the system, a second 100 percent silane panel in a different gas cabinet that was 6 ft away exploded. The debris hurled from the explosion struck Employee #1 in the back of the head and he dropped to the floor. He crawled out of the room and away from the blast area. Employee #1 sustained a laceration behind his left ear, which required 10 stitches. He was held in the hospital for observation for 24 hours to check for a concussion.
