Employee's abdomen punctured by vertical rebar

Employee #1, working 19 feet off the ground, climbed over a rebar form for an overpass abutment wall to go inside and caulk the corners of the formwork. His foot slipped while he was standing on the top horizontal rebar structures. He pulled himself onto the vertical rebar, which was uncapped, and received a 6 inch puncture wound in his abdomen. He pulled himself off the rebar and was assisted when he got back on the work platform. Emergency medical assistance arrived on site and Employee #1 was transported to University Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
