Investigation Summary
At 3:50 p.m. on June 12, 1996, Employee #1 was felling a tree along a powerline right-of-way. He pulled on a rope tied to the tree being felled, and when the tree started to fall, he ran down the hill about 44 ft. The falling tree hit a dead standing tree, which broke off at a height of approximately 7 ft 5 in. The dead tree fell downhill and struck Employee #1. He suffered a broken right forearm, a broken left leg, and chest injuries.
