Investigation Summary
Employee #1 was working with a skyline logging system using an FMC Linkbelt crane, LS-98, that had been converted into a logging yarder. He had set the chokers on a 48 ft 6 in. long log. When the log was about 26 ft away from him, it became caught on a large rock and swung uphill. The log struck Employee #1 in the chest and he died as a result of massive internal injuries.
