Employee's fingers amputated in moving conveyor

Employee #1 was relieving a heat-treat machine operator for a lunch break. While checking for a marker to come out of the heat-treat oven, he dropped a glove into an unguarded area of the flight conveyor. He was reaching for the glove when he became caught by one of the flights and was pulled into the moving conveyor. After his arm was pulled in as far as it would go, the conveyor flight amputated his fingers at the knuckle. Efforts to reattach his fingers were unsuccessful.
