Employees die after fall when plywood platform fails

On October 2, 1992, Employees #1 and #2, of Edgar Boettcher Masonry, were at Alma College working on a 46 ft high HTK. mast climbing work platform laying up a 12 inch block wall at a height of 50 feet. Plywood filler was used at the tower because two planks would not fit between the tower and wall. The plywood spanned 4 feet and failed when it was loaded with the weight of two men and a 12 inch bond beam block. Employee #1 and Employee #2 fell 50 feet. Employee #1 died at the scene and Employee #2 was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
