Employee sprains ankle in 14 ft fall from building

At approximately 9:45 a.m. on January 4, 1991, Employee #1, of Riverside Steel in Santa Fe Springs, CA, was on the seventh floor of a high-rise under construction in Monterey Park, CA. He was pulling a beam and welding lead for some welding work when the lead parted, causing him to lose his balance. He fell about 14 ft to the sixth floor, spraining his ankle. He was taken to Garfield Medical and released after first aid treatment. At the time of the accident, Employee #1 was working alone and there were no witnesses to the accident. He was not wearing a safety belt and lanyard, but no citation was issued because the distance fallen was less than 15 ft.
