Employee suffers internal injuries when wall collapses

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on April 29, 1994, Employee #1 and two other coworkers were hand demolishing an apartment unit. While Employee #1 was on one side of a wall, two coworkers were on the other side, using "picks" to pry up the plywood flooring. When the two coworkers started to pry up the plywood, the wall, which measured approximately 12 ft wide by 8 ft tall, fell on Employee #1. He suffered internal injuries and was hospitalized for 10 days. The two coworkers were not aware that the plywood was under the wall or that their actions would cause the wall to collapse. One indicated that they had earlier tried unsuccessfully to pull down the free-standing wall with ropes.
